Dishin legal
Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This Privacy Policy explains how Dishin collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our website, mobile apps, and related services. It also describes the choices available to you.
1. Information we collect
Account and profile information
When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive information such as your provider account identifier, email address, name, and any profile image the provider makes available. We also collect the username, display name, profile photo, biography, cooking interests, theme, and privacy preferences you choose in Dishin.
Recipes and social content
We collect the recipes, cookbooks, photos, source links, notes, posts, comments, likes, saves, follows, invitations, reports, and other content or actions you submit. A recipe import may include webpage content, creator captions, video transcripts, or images that you ask Dishin to process.
Technical and usage information
We collect information needed to operate and secure the service, such as IP address, browser or device type, operating system, app version, request and session identifiers, timestamps, crash data, logs, and diagnostic traces. If you opt in to usage analytics, we also collect Dishin feature activity and basic profile details through Mixpanel.
Information from others
Other people may provide information about you when they follow or mention you, invite you to a cookbook, interact with your content, or submit a report. We may also receive public recipe material from a URL you direct us to import.
2. How we use information
We use information to:
- create and secure your account and keep you signed in;
- provide recipe creation, imports, cookbooks, search, sharing, collaboration, and social features;
- apply your public or private visibility choices;
- send service notices and activity notifications;
- answer requests and investigate reports or suspected misuse;
- debug, measure, secure, and improve Dishin; and
- comply with law and enforce our Terms and Conditions.
3. Automated recipe processing
Dishin may send images, source links, webpage text, creator captions, video transcripts, and partial recipe data to OpenAI to turn source material into an editable recipe draft. For supported social links, Dishin may use a transcript provider such as Supadata when a usable transcript is not available from the source platform. Dishin uses this processing only when needed for the import you request.
Automated output can be incomplete or wrong. You should review an imported recipe before saving, sharing, or cooking it. Do not submit sensitive personal information in recipe source material.
4. How we share information
With people you choose
Your username, display name, profile photo, biography, and content you mark public can be viewed by anyone. Your follows, posts, comments, and other public interactions may also be visible. Cookbook collaborators can access content and activity shared with that cookbook. Private recipes and cookbooks are not displayed publicly, though we still process and store them to provide the service.
With service providers
We use providers for cloud hosting, databases, media storage, authentication, recipe and transcript processing, analytics, error monitoring, and other technical operations. They may process information only to provide services to Dishin and under contractual or legal obligations that apply to them. Current providers include Google and Apple for sign-in, OpenAI for some recipe imports, Supadata for some social-video transcripts, and Mixpanel for analytics when you opt in.
For safety, legal reasons, or a business transfer
We may disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with law, protect a person, investigate fraud or abuse, enforce our agreements, or protect Dishin's rights and systems. Information may also be transferred as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law.
Dishin does not sell personal information, and we do not use personal information for targeted advertising.
5. Cookies, local storage, and analytics
Dishin uses cookies or similar storage to maintain your session, remember settings, secure requests, and keep the apps working. These are necessary for core service functions.
Usage analytics are optional. If you opt in, Dishin uses Mixpanel to receive activity events and profile properties such as your Dishin user ID, username, display name, profile image, platform, and environment. You can withdraw analytics consent in your settings. Dishin starts analytics opted out until you choose to share it.
6. Your choices and rights
You can edit your profile and content, choose private or public visibility for supported recipes and cookbooks, manage notification settings, and change optional analytics consent in Dishin. You can delete individual recipes, cookbooks, posts, or comments where the app provides that control.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a privacy request or ask us to close your account, email privacy@dishin.app. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. You may also have a right to appeal our response or contact your local data protection authority.
7. Retention
We keep account information and content while your account is active and as needed to provide Dishin. We keep logs, diagnostic traces, import records, reports, and audit records for as long as reasonably needed for security, reliability, support, dispute resolution, and legal compliance. When you delete content or close an account, some information may remain for a limited time in backups or where law, fraud prevention, safety, or the rights of others require retention.
8. Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including authenticated access and access controls. No online service can guarantee complete security. Protect access to your Google or Apple account and notify us if you suspect unauthorized Dishin activity.
9. International data transfers
Dishin and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have different data protection laws from your location. Where required, we use approved safeguards for these transfers.
10. Children's privacy
Dishin is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as Dishin changes. We will post the updated Policy and revise the date above. We will provide additional notice when required by law or when a change materially affects your privacy rights.
12. Contact
Privacy questions and requests can be sent to privacy@dishin.app. General support questions can be sent to support@dishin.app.
